FlyeBaby review and giveaway!

by Shelly Rivoli

Every once in a while, if you’re lucky, and if you keep having babies (ha!), a great new product comes along just in time to make traveling with your child a little easier.

I should probably disclose up front, however, that I am in the somewhat unusual position of being approached on an almost-weekly basis by inventors of “great new products” that will do just that. I can’t review them all, let alone try them out on  my own children. But when I find something that strikes a chord based on my own travel experiences, I do what I can.

That’s why I’m saying, “Heads up!” to any of you who might be planning flights with infants–particularly long-haul, overseas, and red-eye flights in the near future. I have a fresh detailed review of the new FlyeBaby posted at TravelswithBaby.com, including the best travel-friendly features (as I see it) and other considerations as well.

This is the “baby travel hammock” that was just released this fall, and was included in the 2009 SkyMall Inventor’s Corner. Better yet, it’s the baby travel accessory you can win (a $49 value) right here in the Travels with Baby blog!

PS I’m sure that through the course of time this will be erroneously mentioned as the FlyBaby. A if it weren’t cool enough that this was a mom-invented product, get this: that mom’s last name is honest-to-goodness “Flye.” She tells me that when her baby came onto the scene, friends called her “the little Flye Baby.” Down the road, as they developed the product, the name was a shoe-in.

I was so excited to read your review of FlyeBaby–The Baby Travel Hammock. My daughter and I will be taking our first international flights next month to visit my husband's relatives–travel time (with minimum layovers) is estimated at 36 hrs!

This is the product I have been looking for to bring on our long overseas flight. I had been so worried about the possibility of not getting a bassinet for the overseas flight (the airlines told us it was first come first serve no guarantees)–wondering how she would sleep and cope if we couldn't get a bassinet. I like that the Flyebaby is compact, lightweight, and washable. The fact that she'll be able to lounge and interact comfortably with us is a big plus!

What a clever product! I am dreaming of a trip to Europe with our soon to be 6 month old son and this would be a very smart item to pack!

I am kinda fascinated by this product. It certainly would be handy to have your hands free every onceinawhile when travelling with an infant.

This is a great idea! I've been traveling for five years and just had my first baby. Our first plane trip a month ago was enough to make me realize we might need a new strategy for air travel. I would love to use the FlyeBaby when we travel to El Salvador next month.

Hello- I would love this Flyebaby! I have just had a baby and we begin travelling with her in two days! Her first flight is only two hours long but in a few months we plan on taking her on a 8 hour flight and this would be perfect! Not to mention her dad is an international airline pilot so she will be doing plenty of flying in her lifetime! She is a very alert baby so far and I know that she would love this for her flights.

This would be awesome!! I love that it is lightweight and easy to use. Also, since I am due with our first baby in 4 weeks, it will be nice to have a product like this to utilize and never know what it's like to travel without it:)

We really would love the FlyeBaby!

This would be great for our upcoming trip to Costa Rica. We are taking our 6 month old daughter Émilie with us on her very first trip and we are starting it off with a bang; 10 hours on a plane! 🙂
This seems like a great idea for our little one who loves to look at faces and be continuously entertained. Love the idea that you can rest your arms all while constantly interacting with the baby.

Thank you for all of your information and advice, all of which will surely come in handy on our trip in February!

Oh, I also posted a similar message on facebook as well. Twice the chance to win! 🙂

OMG – LOVE the reason behind the name! That's hilarious!

I can't tell you how excited we are at the thought of the FlyeBaby! We just booked our tickets from SFO to New Zealand – that's right, we're crazy enough to decide to fly 13 hours with a BABY! The flight leaves at night and arrives at 5AM local time – meaning we'll have to keep ourselves up all day or face ridiculous jet lag – yet we'll have lost a whole night's sleep (instead of just half of one, like usual!). The FlyeBaby might actually make it possible to catch some zzz's on the flight, for which the drivers in Auckland thank you and the makers of FlyeBaby in advance!

I just posted most of that to FB as well, and have RTed this contest twice! (@ianandwendy – Extra credit, you know!) 🙂 (On FB I'm Wendy Sewell).
