Shelly Rivoli is a veteran travel writer, blogger, and guidebook author specializing in family travel. She founded TravelswithBaby.com in late 2004 as she began work on what would become the 1st edition Travels with Baby guidebook. (This post contains affiliate links to the author’s books.)
On the way to the book … a website. And eventually a blog!
While traveling, researching and writing the book, her TravelswithBaby.com website grew to include many of her tips on travel, finding the best strollers for travel and other essential travel gear for parents, and the original Worldwide Directory of Baby Gear Rental Agencies (also included in the 1st edition guidebook).
With the publication of the 1st edition Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschooler-Age Children in 2007, Shelly also launched the “Travels with Baby Tips” blog — originally on Blogger (and separate from her website as it was in those days!).
Over the next years, the website and blog grew as would Shelly’s family (welcoming baby #3, a cat, and a dog to the family).
More books … and buzz about traveling with babies and young children.
In 2010, Shelly published a pocket-size companion guidebook with essential tips to help parents once they’ve left home on their adventures. Take-Along Travels with Baby: Hundreds of Tips to Help During Travel with Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler received the Rising Star Award in the National Parenting Publication Awards (NAPPA) and was a finalist in the Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards for travel.
She made recurring appearances on ABC 7’s View from the Bay, offering families timely tips for preparing for holiday travel, camping trips, and more. And in 2012, Shelly also served as spokesperson for the Huggies Kimberly-Clark Hawaiian Diaper campaign, which helped bring more than 20 million diapers to Canadian and US families in need.
In 2014, a greatly revised and expanded book was put forth with much acclaim. The 2nd edition Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Travel with Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler received a Gold in Travel Books from the North American Travel Journalists Association, a Bronze Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation, and the Silver Award for Parenting Products in the National Parenting Publication Awards (NAPPA).
Soon after, she founded a second family travel website with curated guides to destinations throughout the U.S. and around the world and tips for travelers with children of all ages: FamilyTravel411.com.

In Shelly’s newest guidebook, Hiking with Kids Southern California: 45 Great Hikes for Families, she leads families to unforgettable adventures on foot in FIVE NATIONAL PARKS and more. From the surreal terrain of Death Valley to peak moments in the southern Sierra, her guide delivers multiple color photos, maps, difficulty ratings, age recommendations, dog-friendliness and all her best tips for every hike she recommends–and has hiked with her family.
