Birth (of a book) announcement!

For the past several months, I’ve been coming to terms with how finishing a book is not like the metaphor of pregnancy and birth so many nice people suggest it is. Nope.
Sure, there is the frequent need to pop antacids and eat strange foods, the unpredictable mood swings, the feeling that you can never get good rest at night and need a nap most days, and as the due date gets closer you start to wonder how you can possibly last (or survive) another month at the rate you’ve been going–while in the back of your mind you keep wondering, “What is this new little creature going to look like?”
However, I never had much luck hiding the fact that I was pregnant. Even absolute strangers could usually take one look at me and have no question what I was working on–and feel free to comment (you, too?).
A book is the complete opposite. Even the people closest to you, even those who know you’ve been up working at 4 a.m. for weeks straight still can’t really comprehend what you’ve been doing with that time, or where your mind has been focused, or why you still haven’t finished.
Especially when it’s a second edition! 😉
So it gives me GREAT pleasure today to share with you what this new little creature is going to look like! And to say that it’s really, at long last, going to be out in the world and YOU will be able to hold it with your own two hands. But get ready, she’s weighing in at 418 pages–that’s 100 pages more than the first edition!
[I’M SO EXCITED!!! I KNOW IT IS GOING TO HELP SO MANY FAMILIES!!!]
Oh, one other way I realized giving birth to a book is not like having a child is that the baby shower comes afterward–that is to say the GIVEAWAYS of great products and gear and copies of the new guidebook that YOU can start looking forward to now in celebration of the second edition.
[Momentary attempt at a cartwheel–doh!]
How about you?
So what do you think of the cover? Have any special requests for gear giveaways?
Okay, now back to the website overhaul… watch for big improvements to the travel planning and resources sections coming soon–along with news when the book first becomes available to the public!
Safe journeys,
