Pack This! The Best Baby and Toddler Swimsuits for the Beach
As a follow-up to the Tips for Planning Great Beach Vacations with Babies and Toddlers, I’m including one of most helpful items we found for spending more worry-free time at the beach with our little ones.
Sure, there are plenty of UV-protective swimsuits and rash guards available for wee swimmers–and there is, of course, waterproof sunscreen. But for hours at the beach with a baby or toddler? And possibly in the tropics? Let us not underestimate the importance of sand-proofing the swim diaper zone and not risking any areas worn thin of sunscreen by swimsuit straps, salt water, or towels.
Do not pass go nor pack for the beach without the indispensable, UV-protective, surfer-style, one-piece swimsuit for your baby or toddler (say that 5 times fast!).
To find a good one-piece surfer swimsuit for your beachcomber, look for these important traits:
⇒ A UPF rating of at least 50+
⇒ A mock turtleneck collar to give extra protection where sun sneaks under sun hats
⇒ An extra zipper or full-length zipper for quick diaper checks and easy changes (tip: zippers keep sand out better than snaps and gaps).
Two brands offering all of these features in suits sized for infants through toddlers are UV Skinz and NoZone. Click here for more Pack This! recommendations, and for help planning beach vacations with babies and young children, be sure to check out these related pages and posts.
